SURVIVOR POOLS

The concept behind a Survivor Pool is a pretty simple one; survive in the pool the longest in order to win. This game can also be called King Of The Hill, Suicide or Last Man Standing. The way in which you achieve this, in most pools, is by correctly picking the winner of a game every week. There is a variation that is the complete opposite; picking a losing team each week.

In the case of standard NFL Survivor Pools, you are asked to pick one team per week who you think will win the game. If that team does win, you move onto next week. If that team loses, so do you and you are out, unless there is a Rebirth option configured in your pool. This carries on until one person is left in the pool. That person is then declared the winner and will happily collect their prize. If the season ends without a single winner, then the tie-breaker rules kick in to determine the winner.

The configuration options available at MFS are listed below. When playing in one of our Private Free Survivor Pools, make sure you understand the pool’s configuration and how it impacts your picking strategy. The possible setting options and descriptions are listed below. If you have questions or would like a bit more info about these settings, make sure to visit our FAQ section.

Settings:

League Type: This setting determines if each pool member will pick a Winning team or Losing team each week. Picking the Winning team is the default.
Team Re-use Maximum: This setting determines how many times each pool member can re-use the same team during the regular season. The default re-use value is 0, which means that each NFL team can be used no more than once during the regular season.
Playoff Team Re-use Maximum: This setting determines how many times each pool member can re-use the same team during the playoffs. The default re-use value is 0, which means that each NFL team can be used no more than once during the playoffs. This is independent of the regular season so the count on number of times a team has been used is reset to zero.

Max Autopicks: This value determines how many times MFS will autopick a team for pool members that do not have a pick submitted by the Lock Deadline. The autopick logic depends on the choice the pool members make on their Team Settings. The default number of autopicks per team is 0, which means that MFS will not make any picks for pool members that fail to submit a pick. Pool members failing to make a pick before the Lock deadline will receive a Loss.
Lock Picks: This is option tied to the setting above. It determines when the Lock Deadline occurs. It will either occur at the start of the first game of the week or on a designated day and time. The default Lock deadline is the start of the first game of the week.

Maximum Number of Rebirths: This setting determines if Rebirths are to be used and, if so, how many will be allowed per team. The default number of Rebirths is 1. If the number is changed to 0, once a team loses, it is out for the rest of the pool. No second lives.

No Rebirths allowed after completion of week: If Rebirths are used in your pool, this setting determines when they will no longer be available for use. The default setting is week 4. Once week 4 in the NFL season begins, no more Rebirths are allowed, even if pool members haven’t used any of their allowable Rebirths. If this number is changed to 1, no Rebirths are allowed.

Extend Into Playoffs If the Survivor Pool begins during the NFL regular season, this setting determines if it ends at the end of the regular season or after the Super Bowl. If the pool continues into the playoffs, the remaining teams will have the opportunity to pick from any of the playoff teams.
