Private Leagues
Head-to-Head or Total Points with full commissioner control. Private invite-only leagues.
How It Works
Private Leagues are the cornerstone of the fantasy sports experience, offering a dedicated environment for you and your friends, family, or colleagues to compete. Unlike Public Leagues, which are open to anyone, Private Leagues are invite-only. The league creator, known as the Commissioner, has complete control over league membership, rules, and settings.
The Commissioner initiates the league, customizes the rules to their group's preferences, and sends out invitations. Members join via a unique link, ensuring the league remains private. This setup fosters a more personal and competitive atmosphere, as you are typically playing against people you know. It allows for inside jokes, side wagers, and a shared history that enhances the fun of the competition throughout the season.
Throughout the season, members manage their teams, compete in weekly matchups, and engage with one another through league chat and other platform features. The Commissioner has the authority to resolve disputes, make scoring corrections, and manage league integrity. At the end of the season, a champion is crowned based on the playoff results, solidifying bragging rights until the next year.
Format Types
Head-to-Head (H2H)
In H2H leagues, your team faces off against another team in the league each week. The team that scores more points earns a win for that week. Standings are based on your win-loss record, and the top teams advance to a playoff bracket to determine the league champion. This is the most common and popular format.
Total Points
In Total Points (or Rotisserie) leagues, there are no weekly matchups. Instead, standings are determined by the cumulative total of fantasy points your team scores throughout the entire season. The team with the most points at the end of the season is the champion. This format rewards consistency over weekly luck.
Commissioner Settings
Commissioners have extensive control to tailor the league to their group's preferences. Key settings include:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| League Size | Set the number of teams in the league (e.g., 8, 10, 12, 14, 16). |
| Scoring Type | Choose between Head-to-Head or Total Points format. |
| Draft Type | Select the draft method: Snake, Auction, or Auto-pick. |
| Roster Positions | Customize the number of starters and bench players for each position. |
| Waiver Rules | Configure waiver wire settings, including priority systems (FAAB, reverse standings). |
| Trade Deadline | Set the final date by which teams are allowed to trade players. |
| Playoff Seeding | Determine the number of teams that make the playoffs and how they are seeded. |
| Scoring Modifiers | Adjust point values for specific stats (e.g., points per reception, QB passing touchdowns). |
Strategy Tips
- 1Know Your League Rules. Before the draft, thoroughly understand the scoring system and roster settings. A PPR (Points Per Reception) league dramatically changes player values compared to a standard league.
- 2Active Communication is Key. Engage with your league mates. An active league is a fun league. Use the chat to propose trades, talk trash, and stay connected. This also helps in negotiating better trades.
- 3Play the Waiver Wire. The team you draft is not the team you will finish with. Stay active on the waiver wire each week to find breakout players or fill in for injuries. A timely waiver claim can save your season.
