Squares Pools
Classic 10×10 grid game. Claim your squares, watch the numbers drop, and win at every quarter.
How It Works
A Squares Pool, also known as a Super Bowl Squares or Box Pool, is a simple and exciting game of chance centered around the score of a single game. The game revolves around a 10×10 grid, creating 100 squares available for purchase. Each square represents a unique combination of final digits for the two competing teams' scores.
Once all 100 squares are claimed by pool members, the numbers from 0 to 9 are randomly assigned to the rows (typically for the home/NFC team) and columns (away/AFC team). This assignment is crucial and happens after the grid is full to ensure fairness. Your square, defined by its row and column, now corresponds to a specific score-digit combination (e.g., Home Team: 7, Away Team: 3).
Winners are determined at the end of each quarter of the game. The last digit of each team's score at the end of the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd quarters, as well as the final game score, determines the winning square. For example, if the score is 17-13 at the end of the first quarter, the person whose square corresponds to the '7' for the home team and '3' for the away team wins that quarter's prize. This creates four chances to win throughout the game.
Format Types
100 Squares (10x10)
Each square is a potential winning score combination.
Random (0-9)
Numbers for rows and columns are assigned after all squares are sold.
End of Quarters 1, 2, 3 & Final Score
Four chances to win a prize during the game.
Match the last digit of each team's score
If score is 17-13, the winning square is Row 7, Column 3.
Strategy Tips
- 1Increase Your Odds. Since it's a game of pure chance, the best strategy is to buy more squares. The more squares you own, the higher your probability of winning one of the quarters.
- 2Spread 'Em Out. If you buy multiple squares, consider picking them in different rows and columns to diversify your number combinations rather than clustering them together.
- 3It Ain't Over 'Til It's Over. The final score payout is often the largest. Even if your numbers haven't hit in the first three quarters, you still have a great shot at the grand prize at the end of the game.
Commissioner Settings
Commissioners can customize the following options when creating a Squares Pool:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Cost Per Square | Set the entry fee for each of the 100 squares. The total pot will be this cost multiplied by 100. |
| Payout Structure | Define how the prize money is distributed. Common splits are 25% for each quarter or weighted (e.g., 15%, 15%, 15%, 55%). |
| Number Reveal Time | Choose when the randomly assigned numbers for the grid are revealed to participants. Default: 1 hour before game time. |
| Max Squares Per User | Limit the number of squares a single participant can purchase to ensure fair distribution. |
| Allow Multiple Grids | Run several independent grids for the same game, allowing more people to play. |
| Reverse Numbers Payout | Option to award a smaller prize for the reverse of the winning numbers (e.g., if 7-3 wins, 3-7 also gets a prize). |

Squares Pools are most popular for American Football but can be adapted for other sports with quarter-based or period-based scoring:
